Bring to Your Remembrance

Date:12/17/23

Category: Advent

Passage: Isaiah 61:1-3

Speaker: David Brown

A Christmas to Remember

Remembering as presented in Scriptures is a meaningful, sacred participation in the reality of past events resulting in powerful implications for one’s life in the present! Share in worship and prayer as Lead Pastor David Brown "Bring to Your Remembrance" for the third Sunday in Advent.

Today is the third Sunday in Advent. Advent means "coming.” We remember our longing for the birth of Jesus the Messiah, who bring JOY to the world. We light again the first candle of Advent, the candle of HOPE and the second candle of Advent, the candle of LOVE. Today we light the third candle of Advent, the candle of JOY

Isaiah 40:1-5

“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.  And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Luke 2:10-11

“And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

God comforts us and helps us, taking away our fear with the promise of His presence. We remember the comfort you give to us each day, but especially during this Advent season, we rejoice in the comfort and the JOY the birth of the Savior brings!

Today is a special performance by the Armstrong Bell Choir directed by Chester Imhausen this performance features Christmas Joy for our Prelude and Coventry Carol during the Offertory.  We will be led in song and praise by the Armstrong Chancel Choir directed by Ben Basone and accompanied by Stacy Haney on the organ and piano. We will sing songs to our savior with UMH, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, (vs. 1 & 2), and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear

During this service we will be highlighting our Children’s Sunday School Program with a special Children’s Moment with Benny M. Special thanks to Jane F. for being the liturgist and leading us in the Call to Worship and scripture passages and Mark & Victoria R. for lighting of the third Advent Candle.
