This week, we celebrate a special milestone in the life of our church as we recognize our Minister Emeritus, Rev. Stephen H. Hoard, upon earning his Doctor of Ministry degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary. During worship, we will acknowledge his achievement and celebrate the faithful ministry and lifelong commitment to learning that have blessed Armstrong Chapel and countless others.
Rev. Hoard’s dissertation, “Susanna Wesley’s Educational Approach: ‘Conquer’ or ‘Break’ A Child’s Will?”, explores the influence of one of Methodism’s most significant mothers and teachers. In that spirit, Rev. David W. Brown shares a message titled “Legacy of a Mother,” based on Proverbs 1:8-9, reflecting on the lasting impact of faith, wisdom, and godly influence passed from one generation to the next. As we honor both the educational legacy of Susanna Wesley and the accomplishments of Rev. Hoard, we are reminded that faith is not only taught—it is lived, modeled, and shared through the generations.
