Palm Sunday, marks Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, initiating Holy Week. Crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and laying cloaks on the ground, recognizing him as a king. The celebration symbolizes his humility, entry into the city for his passion and resurrection, and is marked by special church services worldwide.
- The Entry: According to the Gospels (Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, John 12), Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 that the Messiah would come riding on a colt.
- Significance of the Donkey: The donkey represents humility, peace, and servant leadership, contrasting with the warhorse of a conquering earthly king.
- Significance of Palm Branches: Branches (or fronds) were waved and laid on the road to symbolize victory, honor, and royalty, as the people welcomed Jesus with shouts of "Hosanna".
