Frequently Asked Questions:

What is involved in joining Armstrong Chapel?

Our new member classes entail a 3 hour class followed by receipt into membership the following Sunday during worship.

What are the membership vows?

During Sunday worship, you will be asked to stand in front of the congregation and respond affirmatively to five vows that are central to being a Christian and a Methodist. If you would like to discuss these vows with a pastor in advance of membership, please contact the church office and request to speak to one of our pastors.

What if I haven’t been baptized?

Membership in the United Methodist church requires that you be baptized. If you were not baptized as an infant or young adult, you will need to be baptized as part of your membership with Armstrong Chapel. Our pastors would be happy to discuss the meaning of baptism with you. Please contact the church office (561-4220).

What do I do about my membership at another church of another denomination?

Our membership secretary will gladly contact your previous church to request a transfer of membership or notify them of your new church home. Simply provide us with your former church’s contact information.

How can I plug into activities at Armstrong once I become a member?

During the membership class, you will have the opportunity to fill out a member information form and a talent and gifts survey. This information is stored in the church database and accessed as needed for various church activities, projects and mission projects. It is also recommended that you actively seek out a group or ministry that interests you and join. Refer to the ministries page of our website for detailed information on all the great things going on at Armstrong!

Do I have to be a member of the church to be involved?

All the activities and ministries of Armstrong Chapel are available for your participation with the exception of a few administrative committees for which membership is required. For example: Leadership, Staff Parish Relations, and Finance Committees. Membership is also required to be a voting member at Church Conference.
