A Message of Hope: Talking about Mental Health

Mondays  October 22

The Stephen Ministry of Armstrong Chapel welcomes church members and friends to 3 presentations by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southwest Ohio. At the first meeting, on Monday, September 24th at 7 pm in classroom L001, we will hear from Heather Turner, who is the Executive director of NAMI Southwest Ohio, and from two people living with mental health conditions, through a presentation called “In Our Own Voice”. This will help to change your perceptions of and attitudes towards mental illness and the possibilities for recovery. There will be plenty of time for questions.  The 2nd and 3rd presentations will provide more education about mental health issues,  information about local resources,  discussion and time for questions.

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. NAMI Southwest Ohio is the local affiliate offering no cost resources to improve the lives of all in Southwest Ohio who are affected by mental health conditions through advocacy, education, support, and public awareness.

Stephen Ministry relies on the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to us, so that Christ’s love will be able to go out from us in ever greater and more effective ways. With that goal in mind, the Stephen Ministers at  Armstrong Chapel  United Methodist  Church seek to promote awareness and education to help look at life in new ways, so that we can be more understanding and compassionate in our living.
